Aquatic Life Scavenger Hunt!

- Theme: Creatures that rely on water exploration. Together we will identify aquatic life which animals that rely on our water areas. There are naturally many types of these creatures part of the River Wilderness Community, Florida!
- Items to Collect: Photos of the different aquatic creatures you may see here in RW. We collect photos of things that the creatures have left behind or damage they have done. If you do see one of these creatures be sure you are safe and respect a safe distance first before taking a photo. You can also send your photo to one of your board members to have it featured here on the website!
- Observe: Stormwater into the Manatee River. Kids do their part by looking out for how we treat our yards. We can protect the beautiful aquatic life in our River Wilderness ponds, rivers and tributaries by watching the ponds level and what we people put in the water in our neighborhood. It’s cool. It’s a Stormwater Thing.
Aquatic Wildlife
Here’s a more detailed look at some aquatic creatures in the River Wilderness Community:
- Fish: A wide array of freshwater fish, including minnows, suckers, chain pickerel, and various species of bass, catfish, and gar.
- Manatees: Often seen in the St. Johns River and other waterways, these gentle giants are a popular attraction.
- Alligators: Commonly found in Florida’s rivers, swamps, and lakes.
- River Otters: May be observed near the water’s edge or in the water, sometimes following canoes.
- Turtles: Softshell, mug, snapping, and basking turtles are among the reptile species inhabiting the waterways.
- Shrimp: White, pink, and brown shrimp thrive in Florida’s waterways.
